AMORE - Algorithmic Methods for Optimizing the Railways in Europe

http://www.inf.uni-konstanz.de/algo/amore/

AMORE is a Research Training Network (contract no HPRN-CT-1999-00104) funded by the EU. It has officially started on March 1st, 2000, and will last for four years, with participating research groups from Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, and Switzerland.

The goal of AMORE is to develop models for railway optimization problems, and to propose and implement algorithms for solving them. Besides its core disciplines algorithms design and algorithms engineering, this is an interdisciplinary endeavour requiring a close cooperation between computer science, mathematics, and traffic engineering.

Successful applicants can divide up their time of employment within AMORE between two or three of the participating research groups listed below. Or they can choose one main place of employment and visit other participating groups for extended periods of time. Also, AMORE aims at an intensive contact with its industrial partners. This includes the possibility of internships with one or more of these companies and organizations, among them several national railway companies.

The participating research groups are:

Prospective applicants are asked to contact the AMORE coordinator, Dorothea Wagner (U Konstanz, Germany), indicating, if they wish, the one or two participating research group(s) in which / in whose work they are most interested.
